Purpose

What is purpose? Dictionary meaning explains it’s a reason for which something is created or for which something exists. Synonyms are objective, reason, and intention.

What is your purpose here on earth?

As for me, for the fact you’re alive and living; there’s a reason to it. And what’s that reason? I’ve heard so many people say that they are here to become successful, gain money and serve God in between, but do you really think that’s why you are created?

I read a quote once and it says “the two most important days of your life is the day you were giving birth to and the day you realize why you were giving birth to, the purpose in which you were brought forth”

We may say we were giving birth to because our parents needed children, yeah, I’m not disputing that fact but that’s in the physical sense. Speaking spiritually now, you were given to your parents by God for a reason apart from the fact that they needed a child and I will be explaining those reasons/ purposes today with the help of bible references.

Note; our parents are caretakers, created to guide us on the path God has really set forth for us. I’ll love us to know that we do not own ourselves, we are created for God (I Corinthians 6 vs. 19- 20 says “Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.”)

*Why are you created? What have you come to this earth to do? What’s the reason for your existence?

·         We are created for God’s pleasure: Revelation 4 vs. 11 “Our Lord and God, You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power because you have created all things, and because of your will they exist and were created”. Its God’s will for us to love and give glory unto him, we are to love him unconditionally because he himself is love (Deuteronomy 30 vs. 20). We are expected to offer our lives pleasing unto him and for us to do this we need to live a life of worship. I don’t mean worship in the musical sense alone now, but in every ways of our life (1 Corinthians 10 vs. 31 says “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for God’s glory”) worship is everything you do that pleases God and when we come to this stage that we know that even our walking step needs to please God, it becomes a guiding step away from sin.

·         We are created for God’s family: Ephesians 1 vs. 5 “He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself, according to His favor and will”. We are destined to belong to the family that’s why he had to give up Jesus for us to be with him. John 3 vs. 16 explains that he so much loved the world and when we say the world it means, he so much loved you and I that he gave up the only son he had. Can you fathom that love? That love is unexplainable. We are to know that we are created for fellowship, to fellowship with him, to fellowship with one another. That’s where the church falls in.

·         We are created to be like Christ: Romans 8 vs. 29 “For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers” we are created to be just like Jesus, created for discipleship. I want us to know that God is concerned mainly on what we become and there’s no perfect example than his son Jesus Christ. Jesus was sent to live an exemplary life so that we can become just like him and make heaven. To be like Jesus which is the perfect example to guarantee your stay in heaven, you need to go through the things he went through. Now that I have this knowledge, whenever I go through something’s, I don’t ask God why, I just ask what I need to learn from this phase that’s going on. God didn’t promise a life without trial, yes the trials will come and he wants you to come out of it successfully. They killed Jesus but didn’t he rise up again? Yes, he did, there are greater plans for you ahead.

·         We are created for service: Ephesians 2 vs. 10 “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them” we are created for good works, to serve and to make contributions to the world. This is ministry; I hope we know that not only pastors are ministers? When you begin to work for God, whether it is evangelizing, choir etc. you are a minister because you are ministering to people lives in different ways. (1 Timothy 4 vs. 11- 16) We are to render ourselves as disciples, created to help the people. I think that’s why talents are taken seriously; anytime we discover that we are good at something we are to use it for God because he gave you that talent for him, to please him (remember the first reason). Remember also that all things should be done for the Glory of God ( 1 Corinthians 10 vs. 31)

·         We are created for a mission: John 17 vs. 18 “As you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world” this was a saying of Jesus Christ. We are in this world to bring back people to Christ, as many as you can for there’s a reward for it in heaven. For the fact we know God, I believe we should allow so many people know him also. It’s our duty, one of the reasons why we are in this world. Act 20 vs. 24 “But I count my life of no value to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace” Apostle Paul explains that he sees no value in his life if he doesn’t finish his course (the reasons why he’s on earth). We should have this mindset that for wherever we find ourselves in, a soul must be won.

It’s just like our WAEC we write in order to gain access to higher institution, we are to have 5 credit before we can gain this access to university and we know that if we don’t get that minimum of 5 credit there’s no higher institution for us except of course you want to cut corners but in heaven there are no cutting corners.

We are on earth to shape our lives and to pass the exam to get to heaven, our forever home, and if we do not pass this exam just as we ought to, there’s no hope of getting in. we can’t do half and still expect to gain this access, there are no short corners, you can’t cheat God. If we are living for God, live totally for him; do not allow the things of this world to be a blocking stone because all is vanity, they will all pass away. Yeah, I know we are in the flesh and it’s not easy, but the Lord says “be ye holy as I am holy” ( Leviticus 11 vs. 44) and he, of course, is the all-knowing God, he knows that if we thrive for perfection, with the help of the holy spirit we will get there. Do not let anybody deceive you that you can’t be perfect, ask for his help and he will surely be there for you. Romans 8 vs. 28 says “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose”. When you work according to his purpose all things pertained to you will work together for your good, God never fails.
